THANKSGIVING

This is a time to be grateful for so many things.
I am grateful for having my parents, as their health starts to fail, I realize how short my time is with them. So I cherish every moment pleasant or not. I am grateful that my children still have grandparents who love them and love them they do!
I am thankful for a loving husband and 4 great kids and 5 adorable grand kids.
There are so many things that I could name, however I will just say I am thankful and grateful for friends, family, the gospel and everything in my life.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and now on to a wonderful Christmas!

Battle of the Books

Hunter, Julia and Shelby won their last battle to become BACK TO BACK champions!!
They were the first class to achieve this honor.
So by winning for their school they were able to go to district. (Last year they missed advancing at District by 2 points). This year they scored a perfect score and the top 4 teams transferred to the Regional Battle. Their were 4 perfect teams this year.

Now it s off to District for these girls. Thanks Mrs. K for all your help with the battle.
These girls have worked hard & long going over questions and facts from 12 books.
I am amazed at how well they work together and remember all the details from each book. They did a great job.

GOOD LUCK on your next battle.

Shelby, Mrs. K, Julia, Hunter

39 STEPS

The girls were out again!
We went to see 39 Steps, had no idea what it was about , but hey were out with girlfriends. How bad could it be?
Cyndy did a great job in picking this one. It was one of the funniest plays I have ever been to. Their were only 4 people in this play.
We sat on the first row right in front of the stage. We had the best seats. We could see everything! When I say everything I mean everything!! The sweat, the spit you name it. At one point I asked if we were at the Sea World show & should have brought our clear plastic. The two guys reminded me of Tim Conway & Harvey Korman from the Carol Burnett Show. I know most of you will not know who I am talking about.

Thanks girls for a great night out and lots of laughter!

State Bowling Championship

Hunters team made State for bowling. These girls were so excited.
They placed 2nd in the qualifying round.
These girls bowled the best they could, some way over their averages and some not so much. But like a team they encouraged one another and never gave up hope or the effort to do their best. In the end they were 6th in the semi finals. They did not get to move on, however they did a great job. So proud of you Hunter.

This was Hunter receiving her trophy for THE PEPSI TOURNAMENT that she bowled in. It was a singles event and she place 2nd. Not to bad for her first time going solo.

Spring Break

For spring break we decided to take the kids and go skiing, They had never gone before so this was a family first. For them at least. The weather was great! It was cold with some flurries at the top of the mountain. It got somewhat windy at times, but the snow was perfect.

Tom helping Hunter on the bunny hill. She had a lesson that morning but just couldn't get the hang of it.
Skyler caught on quick he had a lesson that morning also. We spent the last half of the day just skiing on the midway.
Hunter after a long day of trying super hard.

Tom and I on the slopes. It is amazing how fast it all comes back to you. The last time we had skied was about 12 years ago. In fact I was pregnant with Hunter, and Tom hurt my ankle getting off the lift. He was to go straight and I went right. He went right also and knocked me over. This time he was great and never knocked me over.

Day two came and I put Hunter in another class to get her more help. She was determined to ski. She had the best attitude ever.
This was her after her lesson. She said her instructor rocked and was really good with her. He must have done something right, because she rocked it on the mountain.

After spending a lot of time in the midway with Hunter, she said she was ready to hit the top of the mountain. I was not so sure but we took her up. She skis so fast that it is hard to keep up with her. I was ahead of her and the next thing we knew she was gone like a freight train. I was yelling STOP to no avail. She missed the turn off and WE could not find her. As we skied down the mountain she had crossed over to the other side of the mountain by the other lift. She was just waiting for us like what took you so long. We were so happy to see her little smile. We had to walk up to the other run that she had passed to get back to the main area. It was a long way back. She cracked us up at never falling when she was speeding down the hills. But she would fall at the slow easy places.

Skyler had some of his own mishaps as well. Once when he was on the life with mom we got our polls crossed and the chair hit him on the butt. Another time he was with Tom and Dan Millett, Skyler lagged just a bit and the chair comes quick, he missed it and like a cat he just ducked and the chair went right over him. Tom said it was so scary, the crowd was yelling & gasping. He was amazed that he reacted so fast. Skyler said it was so fast and freaky but he was glad he had those karate skills to react quick with.

I am so glad that both Skyler and Hunter loved this sport. This will be something that our family will do for years to come. I love it when we can do something new as a family and all of us enjoy it. Makes family fun that much better. Dan Millett and his son came up for the day and skied with us. Thanks Dan for taking these last two family photos. We were at the top of the mountain and it was our last run for the day. Make that for the season. The weather was warm on Tuesday but it was still a great time skiing and watching our kids enjoy themselves.

BRACES

Hunter got her braces on last week. She has done great getting used to them.
The next 24 months will go by fast.
It is amazin how fast you can see their teeth moving.

Mesa City Championship

Skyler wrestled this year for Poston. He eats breaths and lives for this sport. He has without a doubt been the most disciplined kid ever. He had to lose or should I say wanted to lose 10lbs. He wanted to wrestle at the 103 lb weight class, he and his friend Logan are about the same weight and they did not want to wrestle each other like the last 2 years. So Skyler was cleared by the Doctor to lose the weight. He was only over weight 1 time and that was after Thanksgiving and all of 2oz. Yes I said 2 OZ's. He was so mad that that is all it took to never be over weight again. As a mom I was worried about him not eating but he was so good and eat well with good healthy foods that he never went hungry or starved himself.

This is from the Mesa Schools Spots Athletic page
This year Skyler wrestled and won all his matches but one. He had a great record. He worked really hard and wanted to do his best. Most of all he wanted to win. And win he did. On a Saturday they had a match (the first one that we missed due to Hunters 1st Bowling tournament). He ended up winning 2 and that's where he had his 1st loss. He came home and was sore but suck it up and get over it. It's the sport as we say in our house. This time it didn't seem to get any better. So on Sunday we had our Friend Larry Smith take a look at him. He had some muscle spasms and had hurt his side. He recommended he sit out for the next week and then see. Nice time to get sick he was already going to miss his match that week. He was totally bummed by that , but he knew CITY was where he wanted to be. So the next week came and he was still pretty sore so the coach made him sit out.
Thursday night came with a text from Karen about Skylar is seeded #1 for city. I replied oh the boy from Smith. Her response no" YOUR BOY". See we just had this discussion on how no one spells his name right. We all had a good laugh. Then I told Skyler and he was so excited and thrilled. That was something that we never thought of. What a honor for him.
Then comes the pressure of that #1 seeding.
Skyler had his first match and he pinned his opponent in the second period.

His second match was against a Taylor kid. He was ready for a tough match. To his or our surprise he pinned him in under 48 seconds. That was a huge relief for him and now its on to the final championship round. He is going for either 1st or 2nd. We all know what we are hoping for.

This is Austin he was wrestling and his opponent was taking him to the ground. He braced his fall with his left arm and it broke. It looked like an upside "U". He was a real sportsman and came back from the ER and watched his team take 2nd overall.

The final championship round came and all the boys came out and lined up on each side of the mat. They were introduced and each came forward and shook hand with their opponent.
This match started out strong and Skyler scored 2 point. We went into the second round and he was up. Then he locked hands and gave away a point. He goes in to the third round up by 1. He loses his balance and gets called for locking hands again. it is now tied. They both scored a point for an escape. We are now in overtime. They end up in triple overtime. The coach yelled at the ref for some bad calls and even for calling out of bounds when they were in and that would have been 2pts for Skyler. The coach was warned and knowing he had other boys to coach that night let it go. He could not be tossed out in the first match. For this final overtime, Skyler was down and and his opponent had top. If he didn't get out then he would lose. He just ran out of time and didn't break loose. So 2nd place was where he placed. Not to bad considering that match was the longest match I have ever seen. It lasted almost 25 minuets. He did his very best and that's all one could ask for. He said he is ready to take that kid on again anytime.

Once the match was over Tom directly asked that ref, how he came up with that score. Not once, not twice but three time. The ref said no, and then came the warning then "YOUR EJECTED". Yes my mild mannered husband was ejected. He then proceeded to tell him he was a horrible officiator. Out the door he went. We all just laughed and were so surprised that he got tossed. Everyone was even more surprised it was him and not ME. I knew better I wanted to watch the rest of the boys wrestle and cheer for our school. However he not only got tossed once but twice as he came back in and after a few matches the "ref" scanned the stands and pointed him out. Out he goes again. Then he came back into the lobby to watch thru the door. As the security guy came back and asked what part of ejected do you not understand. So he left for the night. As I was getting all the stuff for him and Hunter to take home, someone says don't forget his priesthood manual, he had to teach a lesson on Sunday. I stayed with Skyler and Sharon to watch the remaining matches and cheer for Poston. Once the meet was over and Poston took overall 2nd for the schools. We hitched a ride home from Karen. As we were being dropped off Karen's brother said tell Tom good luck with his lesson he had to teach also. It was going to be on agency. We just laughed and said boy did he use his free agency today.
This has been by far the best season yet. I am grateful to his sisters for their support to him. Jewel and Hunter made every match and even ones that he sat out of. They were the best cheering section he had. Sharon thanks for always going and loving this sport as much as I have come to love it. Not just because he did so well this year, but because it is a great sport with boys that are really talented and love what they do also.

Mesa Bowling Tournament

Hunters first tournament. She was so excited.
This was a team event.
She bowled better than ever. Her 1st game 101, 2nd game 115, 3rd game 123. She bowled over her average every game.
Her average was 75, her highest game was the 123. Thats 48 pins over. She had a great time.

Hunter, Vianca, Savannah and Hailey.
These girls did an amazing job. They placed 2nd in the team event with a 2754 total pins just 42 pins below 1st.
Needless to say they were so happy. Not to bad for their 1st time as a team.
Hunter and Savannah are on a league together, and they love doing this.
I love to see Hunter improve and do something she enjoys.
